:Southern Heartland Artist Cindy Murphy attended the National Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony this past week in Washington D.C. Murphy designed the ornaments for the Georgia State Tree, and the ornaments were created by students from art classes taught by Elise Hammond and Susan Adams at the Southern Heartland Art Gallery on the Square. Southern Heartland provided Murphy with a scholarship to help pay trip expenses. The scholarship was made possible through donations from fundraising sponors. The lighting ceremony will be broadcast at 3:30 p.m. on WPBA on Sunday, Dec. 23 and can be viewed at www.thenatinaltree.org. -Special Photo
