CONYERS -- The Salem basketball teams swept two games from Winder-Barrow Friday. The girls had no trouble in the opener, winning 49-21 behind Shay Tarver's 14 points to move to 2-3 and 1-1 in Region 8-AAAAA. The boys trailed by four in the fourth quarter, but thanks to 19 points from Dedrick Turner and 16 from Terry Salter came all the way back to win 67-56.
Winder stayed close by going 26-of-29 from the free-throw line.
"We got in too much foul trouble and we let them stick around way to long," said Seminoles coach Noah Harrell, whose team moved to 2-0 in league play and 3-1 overall. "This is what really kept them in the game."
Loganville travels to Conyers today for a pair of games with Salem. The girls tip off at 6:00 p.m., followed by the boy's game at 7:30 p.m.
