COVINGTON -- Rev up your engines and get ready for the Newton County Sheriff's Office's 14th Annual Toy Run Motorcycle Ride on Saturday, Dec. 8.
Registration begins at 9 a.m in the Kmart parking lot, with the ride through the Newton County countryside departing at 10:30 and escorted by deputies. It will end on Ga. Highway 142 at The Church At Covington where lunch will be served to the riders. Riders are asked to donate a new toy and $20 per bike.
"The community businesses have been very supportive. We have collected approximately $1,200 in door prizes to be given away," said NCSO Cpl. Wade Freeman.
In addition to door prizes, breakfast will be for sale before the ride begins and free coffee will be offered. T-shirts will also be for sale.
"You know anyone is welcome to stop by and hang out and anyone can donate toys or money, as well. You don't have to ride. It's a motorcycle ride, but more than that. It's a fundraiser to provide Christmas for local children."
This year the NCSO is working with the Salvation Army and its Angel Tree program.
"It's very exciting what we are accomplishing. All the proceeds from this event will go to help this cause," he said.
