CONYERS -- The Heritage softball team is starting to make winning tournament championships a regular occurrence.
The Patriots dominated their competition this past weekend, going 5-0 in winning the Watermelon Tournament title in Cordele.
Heritage, which improved to 15-1 under first-year coach Jason McBay, shut out four opponents, including Pierce County, 10-0 in the championship and out-scored its five foes 38-7 during the two-day event.
Since losing 7-3 to Chattooga early in the Lady Tiger Invite at Temple High School 11 days ago -- a tournament Heritage came back to win after defeating Chattooga in the rematch -- the Conyers school has allowed just eight runs in winning 10 consecutive games.
Now it's on to the most important part of the schedule as Heritage continues Region 8-AAAAAA play, hosting Apalachee tonight at 6:30 p.m. Before the tournament championship in Cordele, Heritage won its first two league games over Flowery Branch and Clarke Central.Plenty of top finishes for Patriots' cross countryHeritage had a good showing at the Spalding invite cross country race in Griffin last weekend.
