Newton Sheriff's Office adopts Green Cleaning program

COVINGTON -- The Newton County Sheriff's Office has announced the implementation of the Green Cleaning program at their facilities. This program utilizes cleaning products that are environmentally preferred, formulated from bio-based renewable resources, non-toxic and non-allergenic, Sheriff Ezell Brown said in a printed press release.

He said all members of the sheriff's office cleaning staff have ben trained in using environmentally preferred cleaning techniques.

Brown said according to the Environmental Protection Agency, human exposure to air pollutants indoors can be two to five times, occasionally 100 times, higher than outdoor levels and can lead to such health issues as headaches, dry eyes, dizziness, respiratory irritation and fatigue.

The Green Cleaning program ensures a safer environment for cleaning staff and others.

The NCSO has partnered with State Industrial Products, a chemical manufacturer devoted to safer work practices. All products are Green Seal, EcoLogo or DiE certified, ensuring the products are safe, sustainable and effective. The company also provides customized dispensers and training and monitors the program to ensure success.

Brown said he estimates the implementation of the program will save the NCSO about $60,000 a year.
