Amy Hill wants people who walk through the doors of her salon and spa to forget about the cares of the world and relax.
To that end, she and her business partner Ashley Cason, in designing their newly opened Charmed Salon Spa Boutique, have incorporated dark wood and cool colors into the decor, along with low lighting, and they built a separate processing room to make hair coloring more private.
The spa component of the businesses includes two massage rooms featuring extra wide massage tables, an aesthetician room with a shower, and a spa waiting room with a large comfortable sofa.
The business also includes a boutique with clothing and accessories.
"We really try to incorporate as much as we can for making someone feel better. You can get your hair done, your nails done, get a massage and a new outfit," said Hill. "It's a one-stop shop for your beauty."
Charmed Salon Spa Boutique opened in July at 1123 Church St. on the Square in Covington. Hill said the space had formerly been a hair salon that had closed four years ago.
"This was the perfect place that suited our needs, and we love being a part of the downtown square," said Hill, who added that they had their own cabinetry built for the salon. "We wanted a different look and feel from normal salons."
Cason and Hill met each other several years ago when Cason started providing hair styling services for Hill at another salon. Hill said her daughter recently left home for college and Cason was ready to branch out on her own. The two formed a partnership with Hill running the business end of the company and Cason the hair styling, artistic part of it.
"She has phenomenal talents and her clients are terribly devoted to her," said Hill of Cason.
Cason started as a hair stylist seven years ago, and said she enjoys the challenge of satisfying the clients' requests.
"It's a passion I've had forever," said Cason of styling hair.
Charmed offers haircuts for men, women and children, as well as a variety of color services, and smoothing treatments for curly or frizzy hair.
Product lines for sale at the salon include Unite ("We're one of the first ones to get it around here," said Hill), Keratin Complex for smoothing, Moroccan Oil for styling, D'cinque restorative hair treatment and hair growing formulas.
On the spa menu is a full line of massages -- therapeutic, deep tissue, hot stone, pregnancy and Thai yoga -- along with skin care services such as facials, body wraps, body polishes, body exfoliations and microdermabrasion. Waxing, manicures and pedicures are also on the menu list.
At the boutique, customers will find clothing, Natural Life accessories including headbands, wallets and bags, as well as jewelry and shoes.
Both Cason and Hill are Covington natives and they said word is getting out about their new business endeavor.
"We're super excited to come together and bring this to everyone," said Cason.
