COVINGTON -- It wasn't easy, but the Eastside girls golf team did a better job handling the elements to win the Region 4-AAA championship by 13 strokes at Heron Bay Golf and Country Club on Monday.
The Eastside boys may not have matched the girls in winning region, but they still made it to the Class AAA state tournament or as runners-up.
Eastside's Emily Almand missed getting the low medalist by one stroke, scoring a 100. Taking the low medalist spot, with a score of 99, was Spalding's Emma Johnson.
Giving Eastside the region championship with a round of 211 were Almand and Katie Briscoe (111).
Joining the Eastside girls at Applewood Golf Course in Keysville on May 7 will be Sandy Creek, which had a 224. Scoring for Sandy Creek were Hunter Riley (107) and Ayanna Brown (117).
Brandon Shives posted the low score for the Eastside boys with an 86 followed by Quinn Murphy (90), Jordan Liefels (92) and Matt Mitchell (96). As a team, the Eastside boys had a 364 which was 48 strokes behind the region champion Spalding.
Spalding, who had a 316, won with two scores in the 70s and two in the 80s. Scoring in the 70s were low medalist Jake Harper (74) and Tye Willis (78). Parker Plageman and Landon Colwell each shot an 83 with Carson Willis shooting an 81.
