Covington - For the first time in the 21-year history of the Montessori School of Covington, the school's Board of Directors has introduced a new tuition scholarship program in an effort to open doors for more families to receive a Montessori education.
The scholarship program is open to all families seeking a private, Montessori and/or hand-on quality education for their children.
The MSC currently is enrolling toddlers through eighth-graders for next school year.
Montessori education was founded in 1907 by Dr. Maria Montessori, the first woman in Italy to become a physician. She based her educational methods on scientific observation of children's learning processes.
Guided by her discovery that children teach themselves, Montessori designed a prepared environment in which children could freely choose from a number of developmentally appropriate activities. Now, nearly a century after hers first casa dei bambini ("children's house") in Rome, Montessori education is found all over the world, spanning ages from birth to adolescence.
The first-round of scholarships will be distributed on a first-come-first-served basis, and the Board has plans to offer several more rounds of scholarship opportunities.
MSC is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization with a strong and successful history in providing an authentic quality Montessori education.
