Conyers The Heritage baseball team scored early and never looked back in defeating Madison County 10-0 in five innings in game two of a Region 8-AAAA playoff series at Danny Blue Field.
Madison County, which won the first game 6-0, will host a deciding game three Friday at 5:55 p.m.
Facing left-hander Alex Jordan, the host Patriots got going right away. In the first inning, Phillip Kelley polished off a 10-pitch at bat with a walk and Domenic Bazzani ripped a first-pitch fast ball off the wall in right field for a 1-0 lead. Fred Umland followed with a double of his own, scoring Bazzani for a two-run cushion. Heritage added two runs in the second as Kelley has a run-scoring single, stole second, and came around to score when right fielder Brock Turner dropped a potential inning-ending fly ball.
Heritage opened things up with a five-run fourth, sending 11 batters to the plate as Bazzani, Ryan Gasque and Ryan Sutton had RBIs.
Gasque got the win, throwing three scoreless innings, but he threw just 43 pitches. That could set the right-hander up for either a relief appearance or a second consecutive start in Friday's game three.
Game one was all about Turner. In a dominant, complete game shut out, the Middle Georgia College commitment allowed just an infield single to Matt Reeves leading off the second. Meanwhile, the Raiders got all of the runs they would need in a six-run fourth.
