COVINGTON — Another Newton County School System principal has announced his retirement for the end of the school year.
NCSS Superintendent Gary Mathews announced Monday that Liberty Middle School Principal Vic Lee will retire at the end of the current school year, effective June 30, after 37 years in public education.
"Mr. Lee, a well-respected and successful principal, will be sorely missed by many and we wish him and his family all the best now and in the future," Mathews said in an email. "Most recently, Liberty Middle was recognized by the Governor’s Office of Student Achievement for being in the top echelon of Georgia schools for the greatest gains among schools (95 percentile) on the state’s Criterion-Referenced Competency Tests. Additionally, Liberty enjoyed more than 20 percent of its students exceeding standards on the CRCTs."
Mathews expected the position to be posted today.
In March, Mansfield Elementary School Principal G.W. Davis, Newton County Theme School Principal Ruth Anne Smith and Eastside High School Principal Dennis Roddenberry announced that they also will retire at the end of the school year. All of their positions have been filled with current NCSS employees.
