With rain blanketing several North Georgia areas, including Danielsville, Wednesday, the opening rounds of the Region 8-AAAA tennis tournament at Madison County High School were postponed until Thursday.
The first round matches will begin at 9 a.m., including the No. 4 seed Salem girls playing No. 5 Winder-Barrow, and the 10:30 a.m. matches will include the No. 5 seed Salem boys against No. 4 Apalachee.
The four teams from Heritage and Rockdale all received first-round byes, and the quartet's quarterfinal matches were moved up a day as well. In boys play, No. 1 seed Rockdale will play the winner of Salem-Apalachee at 3:30 p.m., while No. 2 seed Heritage plays the No. 3 Winder-Barrow-No. 6 Habersham Central winner at 1:30 p.m. On the girl's side, the three-time defending region champion and top-seed Heritage girls play the No. 4 Apalachee-No. 5 Loganville winner at 3:30 p.m., and No. 2 Rockdale will battle the survivor of the No. 3 Habersham Central-No. 6 Clarke Central match at 1:30 p.m.
Friday, the semifinals will be played in the morning, with the championship and consolation finals set for early afternoon.
