COVINGTON -- The Covington Police Department made an arrest Wednesday afternoon at the Newton County Library on Floyd Street in connection with three instances of public indecency.
Eric Dioniss Spearman, 52, of 431 Kirkland Road, Apt. 9332, has been charged with three felony counts of public indecency and is being held in the Newton County Detention Center.
According to CPD Public Information Officer Capt. Ken Malcom, a call came in about 3:15 p.m. stating there was a complaint of public indecency at the library.
"When officers arrived in the area, they set up a perimeter where Lt. Mike Bruno observed a male matching the description given by the victim flee and run into a wooded area behind the library," Malcom said. "Capt. Philip Bradford and Lt. Bruno apprehended this individual, who was later identified as Spearman."
Detectives have also tied Spearman to two other such instances.
"We have been actively working two other investigations of public indecency involving a person matching Spearman's description -- one which occurred on Feb. 23, 2011, and another on March 3, 2012. We are confident that this individual was the perpetrator of these incidents, as well," Malcom said.
Malcom said further investigation has shown that Spearman has been charged with at least 14 similar offenses in other parts of the metro-Atlanta area in the past.
"We credit the quick response of the CPD officers working today for bringing this year-plus long investigation to an end," Malcom said.
