CONYERS -- It's only April, but Boyce Cornwell has had quite a year.
Two months after winning a state high school wrestling championship, Cornwell officially signed a wrestling scholarship with Gardner Webb University last week.
Cornwell, who defeated Kenneth Brinson of Marist in the 195-pound final at the Arena at Gwinnett Center on Feb. 18, also placed sixth at 215 pounds as a junior in 2011.
Gardner Webb, a strong Division 1 wrestling program in the Big South Conference, recently promoted former associate head coach Daniel Elliott to the head position. Elliott served for the last two seasons under former head man Dick Wince, who retired at the conclusion of the 2011-12 season after 22 years at the Boiling Springs, N.C., school.
