COVINGTON -- The Newton County Sheriff's Office issued a Mattie's Call Tuesday night regarding a missing 65-year-old man who was described as "cognitively impaired."
The man was located a few hours later in Morgan County. He was unharmed and has been reunited with his family, according to NCSO spokesman First Lt. Mark Mitchell.
Mitchell issued a press release that stated a family member notified the NCSO around 7 p.m. that the man had driven away from his residence on Creekside Trail about 3 p.m. Tuesday and hadn't been seen or heard from since.
An NCSO incident report stated the family member said he was on his way to take scrap metal to a recycling center on Washington Street, and that he had been "very forgetful" lately.
The statewide alert was issued and he was located after midnight by the Morgan County Sheriff's Office. Deputies there stated he was "OK, but disoriented."
