ATHENS -- The Heritage baseball team is trying to make a losing streak earlier in the month a distant memory.
Luke Cathcart helped speed up that process Monday in Athens. The left-hander tossed a complete game, five-hitter, striking out 11 and the Patriots won their second consecutive game 5-1 over Cedar Shoals.
Cathcart's start followed Ryan Gasque's six-inning, 10-strikeout performance last weekend against Madison County, which has helped end a three-game losing streak that included two lopsided losses to Loganville.
"They're very reliable every time they've gotten on the hill for us. They give us an opportunity to be able to win a game, we just hope that we can get a couple runs to help support," said Heritage coach Jason Borcherding, whose team moved to 6-3 in Region 8-AAAA. "(Cathcart) threw extremely well, pounded the zone ... he gave us an opportunity to win the game."
The teams complete their home-and-home series today when Cedar Shoals heads south to Conyers for a 5:55 p.m. game.
