PINE MOUNTAIN -- Georgia College and State University and former Eastside golfer Taylor Smith was amongst three Bobcats named to the 2011-12 All-Peach Belt Conference golf team.
Smith was earned a second-team slot and the first postseason honor of his career with a 73.4 stroke average and two top-10 finishes this season, including a season-low seventh place at the Pirate Invitational.
Fellow golfer Patrick Garrett, a junior from Kennesaw, repeated his 2011 effort with a first-team nod. Garrett was tops on the team and sixth in the PBC with his 72.8 stroke average. He also won the 2012 Pirate Invitational in Savannah as Garrett posted nine sub-par rounds and a pair of top-10 finishes.
Freshman Ryan Trocchio (Norcross) took PBC Freshman of the Year honors as well as a spot on the All-PBC Second Team. The rookie had a team-best four top-10 finishes in his seven tournaments. Trocchio owns a 74.1 stroke average with his season best finish of third also coming at the Pirate Invitational.
The Bobcats have put 32 golfers on the All-PBC Teams, as Trocchio becomes the third Freshman of the Year in school history. He joins Joe Young (2008) and Juan Bialet (2005) with that honor.
These three join David Sullivan (Woodstock) and Victor Monte (Chantilly, Va.) to take on the field at the 2012 PBC Championship beginning Monday. Callaway Gardens in Pine Mountain.
When GCSU returns to the 7,057-yard, par 72 course they will be looking to improve upon a fourth-place finish in 2011. The Bobcats have won two PBC Tournament titles coming in 2010 and 2000.
