Handful of openings remain for Newton County Chamber of Commerce Golf Tournament

COVINGTON -- With spring in the air, it's time once again for the Newton County Chamber of Commerce Annual Golf Tournament.

The tournament takes place on April 12 at 11:30 a.m. at the Oaks Golf Course, 11240 Brown Bridge Road in Covington.

Cost is $110 per player and the goal is to have 128 golfers in teams of four participate, said Sherry Dudley, office manager of the Newton Chamber.

Players start the tournament with check-in and lunch, and then play 18 holes of golf.

"We try and finish by 5 p.m.," said Dudley.

Dudley said golfers should have some experience so that the tournament runs smoothly and on time.

In its 18th year, the tournament is a fundraiser for the chamber.

"Our goal, besides raising money, is for them to have a good time," said Dudley. "It's a place for them to network as well."

The tournament is open to chamber members and members of public. Dudley said the event still has openings for four teams.

"If we have room, we take people the day of," said Dudley, who added that there are still sponsorships available as well.
