Georgia State softball player Callie Alford was named the Colonial Athletic Association’s co-Rookie of the Week, the conference announced Monday. Alford, a freshman from Heritage, hit .556 in the Panthers’ three-game sweep of Towson last weekend, including a 3-for-4, 5-RBI performance in game two of the series.
Alford, an all-state high school player while at Heritage, leads Georgia State in RBIs (28), slugging percentage (.506) and walks (20), and is tied with Paige Nowacki for the team-lead in home runs (five) and with Lauren Coleman for the team-lead in on-base percentage (.404). Alford shared the honor with James Madison’s Morgan Heath.
Georgia State (23-11) travels to Furman Wednesday for a doubleheader with the Paladins, beginning at 3:00 p.m.
