CONYERS -- Rockdale County State Court Judge Nancy Bills was recognized recently by the Georgia Commission on Family Violence as Georgia's Task Force Member of the Year.
Highlights of Bills' accomplishments cited in the award presentation include guiding the task force to successfully completing a fatality review that influenced new investigative protocols, elevating the public awareness of family violence in general with websites, public service announcements, and special events such as the RAV 5K road race, and the development of medical and criminal justice protocols.
The Rockdale County Community Task Force on Family Violence was formed in 1995 and reorganized in 2006 after years of inactivity. With Bills as task force chairwoman, the organization established new goals that include obtaining funding from various government entities and grants in order to utilize professional services to increase efficiency in the areas of protocol, service gaps and public awareness.
The award is given annually to individuals who have demonstrated the leadership required to address family violence issues while also serving as an inspiration to the members of the local task forces. The selection process for the award is initiated by nominations to GCFV from approximately 45 local task forces statewide.
