COVINGTON -- A 6-year-old child was struck by a vehicle around 7 p.m. Saturday and airlifted to an Atlanta children's hospital.
According to Georgia State Patrol Capt. Paul Cosper, a 56-year-old Covington man driving a Chevrolet Caprice struck the child on Long Creek Drive, just west of Ga. Highway 162.
Cosper said the accident is still under investigation, but it appears the child came out of the yard of a house on Long Creek Drive and entered the path of the Chevrolet which was traveling west. The front of the vehicle struck the child and after he was hit, he landed on the shoulder of the road.
No charges have been filed against the driver. The child's injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
