CONYERS — The Conyers Police Department is looking for a man who held up the Walgreen’s pharmacy on Milstead Avenue on Thursday morning armed with a knife.
The man, described as a heavy-set, light-skinned black man with a bald head, reportedly came into the drug store at about 5 a.m. wearing a black T-shirt, dark jean shorts and white shoes. The suspect reportedly walked around the store and went to the counter and asked to purchase Newport Red cigarettes. When the cashier got the cigarettes, the man then said he didn’t have the money and walked out of the store.
About 10 minutes later the suspect re-entered the store, this time wearing a white tank top and covered with a mattress sheet, according to the CPD report. He went to the counter and again asked for Newport Reds. While the male cashier was getting the cigarettes, the suspect “jumped the counter and put a knife to (the cashier’s) back,” according to the report.
The knife was reportedly 2 to 2 1/2 inches in length.
The suspect reportedly told the cashier to open the register and “not to make any moves.” The cashier told police he opened the cash box and watched the suspect take all the $20 and $10 bills. The amount of money stolen was not disclosed by police.
The suspect then jumped back over the counter and ran out of the store, leaving the sheet behind. A witness at the store told police that the suspect got into a white older model Camaro. No tag number was observed.
Police collected store surveillance video of the incident that showed the suspect walking around the store around 5 a.m. and the armed robbery occurring at 5:11 a.m.
