Gymnast Sarah Dietrich prepares to do her best handstand, while Audry Knighton awaits her turn in the background.
Covington's Kidz In Step Dance & Gymnastics, located in the Covington Crossing shopping center near Pacho's, will be joining gymnasts across the nation to celebrate National Gymnastics Day on Sept. 17 at 1 p.m. by attempting to break the world record for the most handstands held simultaneously. The public is invited to the event which is designed as a show of strength for gymnastics as well as a fundraising effort for the Children's Miracle Network as they celebrate "A Year of Handstands." Similar events have raised more than $1.4 million since 2001. "The kids are always excited to get out and show off their skills ... This is an opportunity for the community of Covington to see what gymnastics offers by setting an example encouraging physical activity, health and fitness, of showing commitment to a sport with a movement that seeks to encourage fair play, respect, perseverance, sportsmanship and so much more," owner Michael Smith said.
