Oxford falls to Middle Georgia, 7-1

OXFORD -- The Oxford women's soccer team's modest two-game home winning streak came to an end Tuesday as visiting Middle Georgia College defeated the Lady Eagles 7-1.

Middle Georgia College took a 3-0 lead at intermission and scored four more times in the second half.

"The girls were sluggish in the first half, giving (our) opponents lots of room to play," Oxford College coach Gregory Moss-Brown said. "In the second half, we came out much stronger and actually competed well."

The Lady Eagles' only goal came from a newcomer, freshman Nina Newport, in the 89th minute of the second half.

Oxford College (2-4) will host Brevard (Fla.) Community College at 10 a.m. Sunday and will host Judson (Ala.) College at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 21.
