Two grow houses found in western Newton County

COVINGTON -- Newton County is becoming quite the agricultural center, but in some cases the produce is undesirable. The Covington/Newton County Special Investigations Unit has discovered two marijuana grow houses in the western portion of the county and have arrested three men and one woman in connection with the houses.

Earlier this summer a very large grow house was located on King Bostick Road in the southern portion of the county.

"This is an ongoing investigation and we're unsure if there is a connection between these houses and the one on King Bostick Road," said Newton County Sheriff's Office spokesman Lt. Mark Mitchell.

The western locations were found at 12634 Brown Bridge Road and at 840 Oak Hill Road. Mitchell said a "good amount" of plants were found at each location. "There were some mature plants and other smaller plants," he said.

He described the houses as "fully functional grow houses" and said while there were some areas reserved for living in the houses, the majority of the space was devoted to growing the plants. The people who were arrested were at the premises and were taken into custody.

Those who were arrested on Sept. 6 and charged with cultivation, trafficking and intending to distribute marijuana are Rafael Garcia Torres, 51, no address; Luis Felipe Vazquez, 63, of 12634 Brown Bridge Road; Richard William Galban, 22, and Darlyne Buenomillares, 23, both of 840 Oak Hill Road.
