Circus plans big fun at Ga. International Horse Park

CONYERS -- Cole Brothers Circus of the Stars, the world's largest circus under the big top, is making a stop at the Georgia International Horse Park in Conyers next week.

The circus will be in Conyers as part of its annual tour from Louisiana up the East Coast. The circus will be at the horse park Wednesday and Thursday with two shows at 4:30 and 7:30 p.m. each day.

The Cole Brothers Circus is in its 127th year, and while other circuses perform inside arenas and other buildings, it stays with the tradition of performing under a big top tent, according to Michael Norris, marketing director for the Atlanta area.

"What remains unchanged at Cole Brothers Circus of the Stars is its timeless appeal," he said. "Children of all ages are guaranteed to enjoy old-fashioned fun at The World's Largest Circus under the Big Top."

All of the animal acts are new this year, including a performance with 12 tigers. The show also has the world's largest cannon, more clowns than in previous years and a new pirate-themed, aerial ballet act, Norris said.

"We like to say that we start with a roar and end with a bang," he said. "We open the show with Germany's Judit & Juergen Nerger and an assembly of Royal Bengal Tigers and end with Captain Kellan the Human Cannonball."

Other highlights of the two-hour show include the Ponces, a family of trapeze artists whose youngest member is 12 years old, and the Motorcycle Dome, which includes a 12-year-old rider.

Clowns, elephants and trained poodles are also a part of the Cole Brothers Circus show.

The circus show also features Lana, "the only woman in U.S. circus history to balance on her one finger," according to the circus website.

Started in 1884, Cole Brothers Circus is the oldest big top circus in America. The circus travels from March to Thanksgiving, performing about 500 shows a year. It is owned by John W. Pugh. More information about the circus is available at www.colebroscircus.com.
