COVINGTON -- Area students have a chance to learn more about colleges from all over the nation at college fairs this month.
Beginning this month and until November, representatives from hundreds of colleges and universities in Georgia, the surrounding region and even as far away as Washington, D.C., will travel throughout Georgia as part of the annual PROBE College Fair.
The fair is set to visit Alcovy High School in Newton County from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.
At least 60 post-secondary institutions are expected to stop in Newton County at the school, located at 14567 Ga. Highway 36 in Covington.
Representatives will be on hand from the Art Institute of Atlanta, Emory University, Georgia College & State University, Gainesville State University, Grady Health Systems, Mercer University, military branches, Samford University and others.
The fair also will visit the Mall at Stonecrest for the Rockdale/South DeKalb Fair from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 22.
Nearly 100 institutions are expected to be at the mall, which is located off Turner Hill Road in Lithonia.
Representatives will include those from Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College, Auburn University, Charleston Southern University, Furman University, George Washington University, Jacksonville State University, the University of South Carolina, Vanderbilt University and others.
The fair also will make stops in Walton County on Sept. 20, Gwinnett County on Sept. 21 and Henry County on Oct. 5.
High School juniors and seniors especially are encouraged to attend the fair with a list of questions for colleges or universities they are interested in attending. Parents also are welcome to attend the fair with their students.
"For many families, finding the time and resources, especially with the price of gas, to visit colleges and universities is tough," said Bill Smith, executive director of PROBE. "By bringing the PROBE college fair to the students, they are able to be exposed to schools they might not otherwise have a chance to experience."
