Unwanted prescription drugs can be turned in with "Take-Back' campaign

The Newton County Sheriff's Office is participating the third Drug Enforcement Administration's prescription drug "Take-Back" campaign Saturday.

Representatives from the NCSO will be inside the Covington Walmart on Industrial Boulevard from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. accepting unwanted prescription drugs. A drop-off station will be set up and will be clearly marked for citizens to leave the prescription drugs.

The "Take-Back" campaign seeks to prevent increased pill abuse and theft and collect potentially dangerous expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs. The collected drugs will be destroyed and the service is free and anonymous with no questions asked.

"Many do not realize the tragic impact that prescription drugs (when abused) have on our society," said Newton County Sheriff Ezell Brown. "When law enforcement and the community we protect work together, it makes the quality of life better for us all."
