CONYERS -- Get some antacids and water ready.
National EMS is hosting the eighth annual Chili Cook-Off benefiting the Kimberley Chance Atkins Foundation on Oct. 28 from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. The event will be held at the National EMS Conyers office located at 1060 Culpepper Drive.
"You give a $5 donation, you can get either a sample bowl or an actual bowl and you can get whatever you want," said Brandi Glover of National EMS.
Judges will rate the chili in a variety of categories. The public will be able to vote for their favorites, as well as be entered in a raffle for door prizes.
This year, the cook-off will also include desserts.
"In the past we've done just chili, but now we'll do chili and dessert," Glover said. "So far, we have 20 chili (entries) and 10 dessert (entries)."
The Kim Atkins Foundation will have a table set up at the event explaining more about the charity.
"My boss Benny (Atkins) is the founder of the Kim Atkins Foundation -- that's his personal charity, which is why we went with them," Glover said.
People wishing to enter a chili or dessert for the event may do so by signing up at the National EMS office, or by calling Benny Atkins at 770-922-9578.
