Over the course of even a difficult season, often a team can find a handful of bright spots.
Such is the case with the Rockdale football team as it heads into a Week 8 game at Madison County.
Though the previous two weeks have seen the Bulldogs' losing streak extended to six games (the longest for the program since 2006-07), things have been a bit better. Two weeks ago, Rockdale led at crosstown rival Salem 7-6 until a touchdown late in the first half gave the Seminoles the lead for good.
Even last week at home against Apalachee there were signs of life as Rockdale took the opening kickoff of the second half back for a touchdown to end the Wildcats shutout bid and get to within three scores.
While the 1-6 record is ugly, the Conyers school can point to the fact that its offense, which scored just 34 points in the team's first five games, put a total of 28 on the board the last two weekends.
The Bulldogs, who are on their way to a second consecutive losing season after the 2009 team reached the state semifinals, can also look for hope from its Friday opponent. The host Red Raiders are 1-5 and their only victory, like Rockdale, came against winless Winder-Barrow. To some, a match up of struggling teams, but two each struggling squad, perhaps a chance for one more bright spot.
Rockdale has won six of seven games in the series with Madison, including the last four contests.
