CONYERS -- The Rockdale County Sheriff's Office is looking for a man who attempted to rob a cashier at the Publix grocery story on Ga. Highway 212 Wednesday afternoon.

According to the RCSO incident report, a male cashier told authorities that a black man, about 6 feet, 2 inches tall, with some facial hair and wearing a yellow dress shirt, a dark striped tie, dark pants, dark shoes, glasses and a dark hat approached his register to buy a loaf of bread. The man told the cashier that he had forgotten his wallet in his car and went to retrieve it.

The cashier said the suspect returned and paid $3 cash for the bread. Then, as the cashier was making change, the suspect reportedly reached into his waistband, pulled out a kitchen knife and demanded money from the drawer. The cashier said he stepped back and closed the register drawer, and the man ran from the store.

Security camera video of the incident showed a man matching the description of the suspect pull a knife from his waistband, lean over the scanner of the register and motion for money. The video also showed the man loosen his pants with his left hand to put the knife back in its hiding place. He left the store without taking the loaf of bread.

Witnesses told authorities the suspect hurried to the back of the parking lot, got in a black late 2000 model SUV and made a right turn onto Ga. Highway 212 heading toward Newton County. The vehicle is believed to be either a GMC Yukon or Chevrolet Suburban.

Security camera video showed the loaf of bread was picked up by a couple who was gathering up their groceries at the end of the cashier line.

The suspect is described as 6 feet, 2 inches to 6 feet, 4 inches tall, weighing 230 to 240 pounds, with thin facial hair in a goatee and mustache.
