JASON DEES: Are you living your life abundantly for God?

Helen Keller once said, "Life is either a daring adventure or its nothing." That is one of those quotes that has always inspired me. Here you have a woman that can neither see nor hear and rather than cower in fear, she is willing to really live.

To be alive is a great blessing; to have life is a gift from God. We honor Him when we live abundantly, spending our days in profitable affairs. Christ told his church in John 10:10, "I came that people might have life and have it abundantly." The apostle Paul wrote, "God did not give us a spirit of fear, but of power, of love, and self-control" (2 Timothy 1:7).

A life in Christ is a full life, lived with power for the glory of God.

So while I am sure you just picked up this little booklet to find a coupon or learn about the newest restaurant in town, my goal for this page of the book is to get you to think about your own life and I have a few questions for you.

How are you living your life abundantly for the things of God? Is your life marked more by fear or by power? What is your next adventure, or what daring thing will you try in the next few months?

I agree with Helen Keller -- if life isn't an adventure what is it? God has put each of us on this earth and His providential will is not accidental. He has designed this world and designed you to live daringly for His glory.

A new tradition at First Baptist is to take an annual study tour. Last year we went to Israel; this year we are going to Turkey and Greece. On both of these trips, men and women in their 70s and 80s have signed up, unafraid of a different culture, eager and willing to be stretched in order that their faith might grow. The other day I learned that a woman in our church in her 60s is going skydiving.

Now, living a life of adventure in God is not just about all about doing daring things; it is about being obedient to God, being intentional in His Kingdom work, and not being afraid to really live.

So are you living abundantly? It is the life that Christ has called you to for the sake of His eternal glory on Warth.
