Next year we will be voting on a 1 percent sales tax to fund transportation in our region. As it stands right now, I will be voting "no" because of the basic unfairness of how the money in the region is proposed to be spent.
Douglas gets all but $6 million back for a 97 percent return rate; Fayette all but $3 million and a 98 percent return rate; Henry gets all but $10 million and a 96 percent return rate; and Cherokee all but $7 million and a 97 percent return rate.
The total that the other four smaller counties will be donating to the region is $26 million.
Anybody think that is fair? I would love to find the person that thinks it is.
