If laughter is the best medicine, then Conyers may have a new health center.

The Mixed Nuts Comedy Network, a comedy club, opens for business on Oct. 8, with performances at 7:30 and 9:30 p.m. At the historic Depot on Railroad Street in Olde Town Conyers.

Admission is $7 online at www.mixednutscomedyga.com or $9 at the door, for a three-act show. Beer, wine and light appetizers will also be available.

Comedy Club producer Cari Trueblood said the venue is an outlet for local comedians to show off their best material. The first show will headline Decatur-based Emmet Furrow, known as the "fold-up" comedian for his contortionist abilities.

Also in the line-up is Dan Weeks, who won Best Performance of the Year in 2009 from Atlanta Stands Up, a network of local comedians, and has worked the Punchline in Atlanta.

"There's so much talent in the metro area, that's what we'll be featuring," Trueblood said. "It's the beginning of a comedy experiment and if it's well received we'll make it a permanent feature."Trueblood worked as a manager for the Punchline in the 1980s, rubbing elbows with famous names like Jerry Seinfeld, Robin Williams, Ellen Degeneres and Eddie Murphy.

Working alongside Trueblood are the operators of Mixed Nuts -- Mike Rhinehart and Tim Sexton, who has several years of experience as the producer of a comedy radio show in New Jersey.

The three live in Conyers and would like to see the restaurants and bars in Olde Town benefit from the foot traffic the Mixed Nuts Comedy Network might bring in.

"Conyers is a bedroom community with a great nightlife and we just wanted to add a new element to it," said Trueblood, who added that the next show is set for Nov. 5.

The Depot in Olde Town can seat 104, so Trueblood recommends purchasing tickets online and arriving about a half hour before the show for a good seat. Groups of eight will get a seat in the front of the house.

"We think it's going to be well received. We just need to get the word out," Trueblood said.If you go
