FAYETTEVILLE -- The Alcovy softball team started on the right foot but quickly slipped up losing the forcing Whitewater, the GACA Class AAAA No. 4 ranked team, to three games before losing in the Region 3-AAAA tournament.
The Lady Tigers had Whitewater with their backs against the wall winning the first game 8-5. Alcovy almost eliminated the Lady Wildcats lost it 3-2.
In the deciding game on Friday, Whitewater was able to hold off Alcovy with a 3-1 win.Of the 12 runs scored by the Lady wildcats, only four were earned."We had our opportunities but they made the plays. We could have won the game, but it was kind of hard the way we played." Alcovy head coach Monica Marks said. "We never ever give up but we had our opportunities and let them slip."
Kia Sorrells led the Lady Tigers in the series with five hits followed by Morgan Beshears and Jordyn White with three hits each. Getting two hits were Jordan Hilty, Chelsea Murphy and Brandie Weathersby. Getting extra-base hits (double) were Hilty and Beshears.
In the circle, Murphy pitched all three games where she gave up 21 hits while striking out four batters and walking nine.
