NEWBORN -- This year, the town of Newborn is celebrating the Christmas season in a big way. The annual Lighting of the Tree at Town Hall will now include two Christmas trees -- the traditional artificial tree that is lit every year and a live tree planted last year by Beryl Budd with the Georgia Forestry Commission, said Brenda Fincher, treasurer of the Newborn Area Heritage Trust.
The lighting will take place at 6 p.m. Friday and afterwards, the crowd will head over to the Historic Schoolhouse for cocoa and cookies. Vendors selling homemade crafts and other wares will have booths to peruse, everyone can join in singing Christmas carols, and Santa will be on hand for pictures.
The event is sponsored by the town of Newborn and the Newborn Area Heritage Trust and is free and open to everyone. The celebration is expected to wrap up at around 8 p.m.
