COVINGTON -- Skeletal remains were found Thanksgiving afternoon in an undeveloped area off Odum Street, according to the Covington Police Department.
CPD Capt. Ken Malcom said a resident of the area was riding a 4-wheeler and made the discovery and notified authorities.
Malcom said the identity of the person, believed to be a male, is unknown and the remains have been sent to the Georgia Crime Lab in Decatur in the hopes of establishing an identity and discovering the cause of death. He said foul play is not suspected at this time.
Malcom said authorities are in the process of going over missing persons reports in the hopes of discovering the man's identity. He said the body had apparently been at the location for "quite some time."
