COVINGTON -- Rockdale got its wrestling season off to a great start Wednesday.
The Bulldogs, coming off a fourth-place finish at the Class AAAA Traditional Tournament in February, went 5-0 to finish first at the Newton Duals. Rockdale, returning three state placers in Alonzo Allen, Ulises Ponce and Jose Robledo, defeated Lithonia in the first-place match.
"It was a great day of wrestling for us ... starting the season going 5-0, our whole lineup looked really good," Rockdale coach Craig Hargrove said. "They wrestled well as a team, looked good."
Rockdale will get a chance to see Lithonia again right away when it hosts the Bulldogs and Alexander, which finished fifth at Traditional, Nov. 29.
"It will definitely be a good measuring stick to see where we're at," said Hargrove.
Elsewhere Wednesday, host Newton went 3-2 and finished fourth, while Alcovy went 2-3.
