The Salem boy's basketball team kept winning late Tuesday night. Led by Terry Salter and Dedrick Turner, who each scored 11 points, and a dominant defense, the Seminoles defeated Northview, 55-43 at the Lanier Shootout in Sugar Hill. Salem (4-0) held its third consecutive opponent to 52 points or less.

"We've been playing great defensively, I've been really pleased," Salem coach Darren Wilkins said. "I'm real happy with our defense; we've been really locking folks down."

Salem gets the rest of Thanksgiving week off before returning to the court Nov. 29 at Woodland (Henry).

The Heritage boys dropped to 1-2 with a 68-57 loss to Mountain View in the Tabo's Tip-Off Tournament at Jefferson High School. Shon Pittman led the way with 12 points, while Mark Wilkerson added 10. The Patriots were without starting point guard Jordan Martin, who suffered a concussion in a loss to the host Dragons last Saturday.

Martin is expected back when Heritage plays its final game of the week-long tournament against the loser of Duluth and Region 8-AAAA foe Cedar Shoals Saturday.

Salem grad makes splash in college swim team

Jaimie Horton has had quite a year. Horton, a 2007 graduate of Salem High School who starred on the Seminoles' swim team for four seasons, received a collegiate honor at the end of the summer.

Horton, who had a 3.57 GPA spring semester and graduated in May with a degree in communications from Catawba College (Salisbury, N.C.) while swimming for the Indians, was named to the Blue Grass Mountain Conference All-Academic Team.

Horton, who also served as the head coach for the Deer Run Dolphins in the Rockdale Swim League, now works for the city of Conyers.
