SOCIAL CIRCLE -- The Social Circle Storm boys baseball team came in second place for the state in the USSSA (United States Specialty Sports Association) 10 and under AA Division by winning second place in the Final Four Championship Series in June in Hampton. The Storm team qualified for the Final Four by winning second place in the State Championship tournament.
The team began this year dominating the A Division and soon advanced to AA Division, based on their points, skill and power rating. This is the second year the team has been together.
"We've worked hard and have seen tremendous growth in our team," said Head Coach Jim Peters. "I am extremely proud of each one of our boys who give it their best in every game. They are truly a talented group of kids who have fun together and are a pleasure to coach. We have a great group of parents and sponsors who make it possible for us to enjoy baseball at such a high level. We look forward to next year with the ambition of playing at the USSSA World Series in Panama City, Fla."
Playing travel baseball is costly so the team holds various fundraisers and seeks sponsorships each year. The 2011 Sponsors are: Delta Performance Products, Dr. Gonter and Georgia Emergency Physicians, Fresh Air Bar-B-Que, Mike Russell and PRIMERICA, Risk Management Associates, Sacred Journey, Social Circle Veterinary Hospital and Standridge Color Corporation. The team also holds an annual Social Circle Storm Turkey Shoot each November in Social Circle.
