If you walk into Pamela Spearman's antiques and collectibles shop, Something Old, Something New, expect a little conversation. Spearman admits she is a people person who relishes acquainting herself with customers.
For those interested, she'll share exactly where each item in her shop originated.
"Ninety-nine percent of my things I have a story for," said Spearman.
Spearman recently opened Something Old, Something New in Olde Town Conyers at 921 Center St. She relocated the business from Social Circle to be closer to her DeKalb County home and family. She also liked being in the heart of the city of Conyers.
"I like what's going on in Olde Town right now. I like what I see," said Spearman of the other businesses populating the area.
Collecting antiques has been a pastime for Spearman most of her life and 12 years ago she turned her hobby into a business, selling the items she purchased. Most of her merchandise is acquired on trips she takes with her husband throughout the United States.
"I shop where ever I go," said Spearman.
She specializes in glassware but also carries a range of household items including furniture. Everything in the store is used, but some of the pieces are new, while others qualify as antique.
"The reason I call my store Something Old, Something New is because I do have newer things and I want to appeal to a wider audience than just those looking for antiques," said Spearman.
"Young people come in because they are curious. They don't want something old but if they can find something nice that can compliment their decor, I'd like to appeal to the crowd too."
A wife, mother and grandmother, Spearman said she is at a point in her life where she has the time to pursue her own personal interests. Something Old, Something New is a labor of love.
"It's more passion than it is profit," said Spearman. "I love the nostalgia of old pieces. I just love antiquing. I have an old soul. There's something about antiquing I'm drawn to and have been drawn to for as long as I can remember."
The hours of Something Old, Something New are 10:30 a.m. To 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday. For more information, call 770-860-8901 or find the business on Facebook.
