COVINGTON -- Newton County Sheriff's Department deputies were able to catch one of the suspects they believe is responsible for the armed robbery of Bailey's Food Pride on Salem Road on Friday morning. They are still searching for the second suspect.

According to NCSO spokesperson Lt. Keith Crum, Traion West, 19, of 39 Ridge Road has been arrested and charged with armed robbery, obstruction of a law enforcement officer and loitering and prowling in connection with the incident.

Crum said deputies began searching the area behind the store on foot with one of the department's K-9's shortly after the robbery occurred about 9:15 a.m.

"The K-9 struck a fence and trailed it ... he went through Shepard's Drive, Ashley Meadows subdivision and onto Sunflower Lane. The K-9 didn't catch him, but he gave us the right direction and put deputies in the area," Crum said.

About 2:30 p.m. the 911 dispatchers began receiving calls concerning a suspicious black man on Sunflower Lane ringing doorbells.

"The clothing description matched that of the suspects," Crum said. "When deputies had visual contact with the suspect, he fled and a foot pursuit ensued. The subject was seen throwing a large amount of money down as he fled."

Crum said the investigation is continuing as investigators search for the second suspect.
