I'm not going to lie, this was truly an experimental recipe. My husband Kevin and I enjoyed it and won't hesitate to have it again. So, I thought I'd share it with you.
This recipe story unfolds like this: we had sloppy Joe sauce in the pantry, but no beef; we had a loaf of bread, but no buns.
But we did have chicken, and that got the wheels in our heads turning, so we went for it.
It was Kevin's idea to shred the chicken, and I think that made a big difference. I had planned to just chop the chicken into small bites.
It was also his idea to mix the chicken and the sauce with his hands. It's messy, but it works. There is just something about getting your hands messy in the kitchen that somehow magically makes the food taste better.
And there you have it -- sloppy chicks.
You can serve this at dinner for your family or dress it up for guests. We had fun dressing up the dish.
We overfilled a couple of the rolls with sloppy chicks, so be sure to use some of those fancy little toothpicks to hold it all in place. Plus, I think it really looks cute.
We ate ours with some chips, but serve whatever your family likes.
I have to say, although the sloppy chicks were good, the best part was spending time in the kitchen with Kevin.
A lifetime of memories can be made in the kitchen cooking with your family, remember that.
