Special Photo . Piedmont Academy held its 41st graduation ceremony on May 21 at the school's gymnasium. The school graduated 25 seniors this year in front of a crowd of nearly 1,000 guests.
The 41st graduation at Piedmont Academy was held Saturday morning in the Piedmont gymnasium. Twenty-five graduates sat on the stage for the last time as they received their diplomas.
A crowd of nearly 1,000 people viewed the ceremony on a stage, which was decorated with blue hydrangeas, ferns and fresh spring flowers. Each senior received a hydrangea to plant in his or her yard to remember the occasion.
The ceremony opened with Nina Blackshear giving an inspiring invocation, and Andie Lewis entertained the audience with a rendition of "Never Alone" by Lady Antebellum.
Salutatorian Lauren Mitchell made a plea to all seniors to utilize the knowledge gained at Piedmont and to never forget the special memories of this class over the years. While valedictorian Matthew O'Brien expressed his thoughts on the future of the class members by encouraging them to take the harder paths to achieve success.
Ushers for the ceremony included juniors Samuel Bryson McGinnis, Davis Matthew Kimball, Jeremy Darren Wood and Briana Rebecca Bailey. Mascots for the senior class were Brianna Mikayla Mitchell and Dylan Charles Pitts.
