Special Olympics and the Miracle League of Newton County recently named its art contest winners.

First-place winners include Ashley Housworth, third grade at Oak Hill;

Brie Worton, first grade at Ficquett; Riana Johnson, fourth grade at

Palmer Stone; Allison Aguilera fourth grade at Rocky Plains; Sandy

Aguilera, 10th grade at Alcovy High; and Duncan Jourdan, third grade at Palmer Stone.

Honorable Mentions include Zoie Edwards, kindergarten at Palmer Stone; Emily Farina, third grade at Fairview Theme School; Harley Humphries, fourth grade at Palmer Stone; Christina Grant, first grade at Palmer Stone; Andrew Elasri, second grade at Palmer Stone; and Cheyenne Allen, second grade at Palmer Stone.

A total of 34 artwork pieces were submitted from throughout the county's schools and 12 winners were selected, including six first-place winners and six Honorable Mentions. All 12 winners will be featured next year in the Miracle League note cards, which will again be used as a fundraiser.

All artwork is on display at the Newton County Library on Floyd Street

in the lobby for the next two weeks. All winning artwork was first

displayed two weeks ago at the Opening Ceremonies and at the two Track & field Event days at Newton County Special Olympics at Sharp Stadium.

All 12 winners received free kid's meals from both Stevi B's and

Chick-fil-A, which were donated by both restaurants. First-place winners also received a Scoops Certificate, compliments of Main Street-Covington. This is the second year for the contest.
