COVINGTON -- Crystal Joyner and Kim Adams have seen firsthand the devastation caused by breast cancer. Joyner is a surgical tech and Adams is a registered nurse at Newton Medical Center, and the two friends have been present for many operations on women who have the disease.

"It touches you. We just wanted to do something for all the patients we've taken care of," Joyner said.

Both women and their husbands enjoy riding motorcycles, so they created a local fundraiser to benefit the Atlanta 2-Day Walk for Breast Cancer, an event that takes place in September.

The second annual Simply the Breast Motorcycle Ride and Family Fun Day will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Ginn Chrysler Jeep Dodge at 5190 U.S. Highway 278 in Covington.

The ride through the countryside of Newton County will start at 10:30 a.m. The cost is $15 per biker and $5 per passenger. Registration will take place on the day of the event.

For those who don't ride, there's still plenty to do, including face painting and a moonwalk for the kids, cloggers, music, vendors and food.

"We're hoping when all the guys and gals get back from riding their motorcycles, their families will meet them there and have lunch and play and have a good time," Joyner said.

More information about the event can be found on the Simply the Breast Facebook page or by calling Joyner at 678-725-1389.
