PORTERDALE -- For the fourth consecutive year, the Arts Association in Newton County is partnering with Southern Heartland Art Gallery to celebrate the work of visual artists.
"Art on the River and Dance: Derby Style" will take place at 7 p.m. Saturday at Porterdale Mill Lofts, at the restaurant and patio along the Yellow River. The event will feature an art display with works by local artists that will also be for sale.
Guests can nosh on appetizers and enjoy wine while browsing the exhibit, and then head outside for music and dancing. They are encouraged to bring tables, chairs and picnic blankets as well as their evening meal for the "Chastain-style" event.
Also, given that the event is on the same day as the Kentucky Derby, hats are encouraged. Entertainment will be provided by The Grapevine Band.
"People can get out and enjoy the scenery right on the river in Porterdale. It's a great opportunity to come and enjoy a relaxing, casual social event that celebrates the very talented visual artists we have in our midst," said Buncie Lanners, executive director of the Arts Association.
Tickets are available at www.newtoncountyarts.org or by calling 770-786-8188. The cost is $25 for adults, $20 for seniors and $10 for children. At the door, tickets will be sold for an additional $2.
