COVINGTON -- A wreck involving a sedan and a tractor-trailer truck tied up traffic on Interstate 20 westbound in Newton County about two hours Thursday afternoon and backed up traffic for several miles.
Newton County Sheriff's Office spokesman Lt. Mark Mitchell said no one was seriously injured in the accident that occurred at about 12:30 p.m. about half a mile west of the Covington city limits.
"When deputies arrived it appeared that the sedan was wedged under the back tires of the trailer of the truck," Mitchell said. "Our traffic accident investigators have worked the accident, and since it's involving a tractor-trailer, the (Georgia State Patrol) is working it along with us."
The cause of the accident has not yet been determined.
Mitchell said the female driver of the sedan was taken to an Atlanta area hospital by ground ambulance. He said it was later determined that her injuries were minor. She was the only occupant of the car. The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured, he said.
"The accident held up traffic approximately a good hour and a half to two hours before we were able to get it back running," Mitchell said.
