Church to hold duck race

PORTERDALE -- Porterdale Baptist Church is sponsoring its first ever Duc "K" Yellow River Race for a Cure, benefiting Newton County Relay for Life.

The April 16 event will feature two duck race events as well as an Easter egg hunt.

The action kicks off at the Porterdale Ball Field off Hemlock Street, where participants can adopt a duck for $5. The first heat of the duck race will take place at 10 a.m. The top 20 finishers will advance to the final. The second heat of the duck race will splash off at 12:30 p.m., again with the top 20 advancing to the final. The top 40 ducks will take to the water at 1:30 p.m. for the grand finale.

A separate "High Rollers" duck race will take place at 11:30 a.m. This race is limited to 20 ducks at $50 per duck. One top prize will be awarded in this race.

The Easter egg hunt is scheduled for 11 a.m.

Prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place in the duck race finale. The last place duck will receive honorable mention. Participants do not have to be present to win.
