Newton Citizen
These babies are part of a litter of five, three males and two females, who have started their lives in a noisy animal shelter and are looking for a new home. They're part Dachshund, but the other part is unknown.
They are expected to weigh about 15 pounds as adults and are ready to be trained and loved. Now only 6 weeks old, they can be rescued and adopted at Newton County Animal Shelter, located at 210 Lower River Road in Covington. The shelter usually has between 20 to 30 dogs and an equal number of cats eligible for adoption. The adoption fee for a dog or puppy is $25 and $10 for a cat or kitten. Spaying/neutering is mandatory for all animals.
The shelter is open from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays. The phone number is 770-786-9514. Anyone who has lost a pet is urged to go to the center and bring a photo of the missing animal.
