CONYERS -- A former Newton County department head has been named a finalist by Rockdale County in the search for a planning director.

Marian Eisenberg, the former Newton County planning director, and two others are vying for the job. Eisenberg lost her job last year due to a reduction in force stemming from a multi-million-dollar budget shortfall.

Marshall Walker, general manager for Rockdale County planning and zoning, is also a finalist along with M. Patricia Chapman, the former Loganville planning and development director.

Director positions at the county have a pay level of about $90,000. A director for the county's Department of Transportation is also being sought. Interim Director of Transportation Miguel Valentine and Wade Brannan, a former transportation director at Clayton County, are the two finalists.

The directors positions are new following a reorganization of county government last fall that spun off the planning and transportation divisions.

Rockdale County Clerk Jennifer Rutledge released the names and resumes of the candidates this week. The Rockdale County Board of Commissioners will hold a called meeting at 10 a.m., Wednesday, March 30, to consider the appointments of the two director positions. The meeting will be held at the BOC Assembly Hall at 901 N. Main St.
